Problem with CSS border-left: in Firefox

When I include the following line

border-left: 3em solid white;

in the body style of my CSS file, the slider works fine with IE but not with Firefox. With Firefox, if I click on the slider the slider goes straight to the maximum value and gets stuck there. If I comment out the border-left: part the problem goes away but I would rather not have that limitation. Has anyone any ideas about what the problem might be?

Thanks,
Peter.

Using margin-left:, instead of border-left:, seems to get around the problem. So I will use that for now.
