Event list - other variables?

Can I use in the event list other variables than
$num - event number
$title - event title
$body - event body
$time - event time

I tried $date because I want the event-date in the event list but It does not work, in the output I only see "$date" but not the content of the variable $date.
Why? What's the name of the variable where the event date is stored?
