How to fix column widths??

I have a table with five pages of information but the columns change width from page to page depending on the data that is to be displayed.

How/where can I fix the column widths???

What are the "rules" for dermining the table (cell widths) that is finally displayed?? Playing around withthe table.css variables does not seem to help or gets overwritten.

Have a look at the problem:

The third column moves left for page 2 - occurrs in both NS and IE.

Had to remove the above example but the problem seems to be browser specific - get different results in Netscape, IE, Opera and Firefox. The issue is understanding the influence and positioning of the table width set up early in the table.css and the interaction of that with he individual column widths set up later on.
