Database w/o web server?

Using Tree Menu Pro.

Is it possible to hook the tree into a SQL database (either local or on another computer) without the need for a web server? It looks like all the db samples incorporate ASP or PHP.

I would like to use my existing app (which includes a static tree), and "wire" the tree into the database.
