expanding one folder at a time

I have a menu setup and working. I know want to implement an API so only one folder can be open at a time. I looked at the code in tree_tpl.js (demo4) and copied it to my file. Then I get errors and no tree. If I copy one or all the js files, it still does not work. It only works in demo4, not my test site or production. I'm missing somthing fundamental, anyone see where? Thanks.
