menu items with different colors

First of all, I really like the menu and it's coded structure. It's easy to implement and customise as far as menu structure, hierachy and "look & feel".
However, I have a question that I hope you can answer...

Is it possile to change the background "outer" color for one single menu item in a level block ?

For instance...

I have a level 0 block with a white background, and under that a level 1 block with a grey background. How do I change one of the items in the level 1 block to have a white background, but leave the other items with the css set white background?

Do I use a wrapper for this? or perhaps an image as a background?

I am using the free version if that helps.
