Link disappears in IE5

Good morning,

That's my first topic and I hope someone can help me.

I'm using the Tigra Menu, version 2.0, to build my Menu in a Lotus/Domino application. The first time I used the menu, everything was fine. Then I realized I was having problems with the text/fonts depending on the browser. So, I decided to use the text as an image, saving the image as a transparent gif.

Example: instead of using

var MENU_ITEMS = ['Produtcs', null, {sb:'My Products'}]

I'm using

var MENU_ITEMS = ['<img src="produtc.gif" border="0">', null, {sb: 'My Products'}

where products.gif is a picture with width 144px and height 12px with the text "Products".

The menu works fine with IE6+, Netscape 7, but some users have IE5 and here is the problem: the link disappears when I am over the picture. What's happening?

Can anybody please help me?

Thanks in advance,

Renan

Make sure the size of the menu items is the same as the size of the image inside.

Note that with free version you can't have different item sized on the same level so all images should have the same dimentions.

Thanks for your reply, Tigra, but it didn't work.
Since I'm from Brazil, and I don't know if you really understood what I mean, I decided to attach "my problem".

If you open the menu.tpl file, you'll see that I've changed the item sizes, as you mentioned. Or I changed the values in the wrong place?

Once again, I'd like to say that this problem only occurs with IE5.

The pictures have been built with Photoshop.

Thanks once again for your previous answer.
I hope you (or somebody else) can really help me.

Best Regards (and sorry for my rusty English),

Renan

Yes, sizes are correct. Possible source of the problem is CSS settings. For example what's padding: 4px; for. The size of the image equals the size of the item, you don't need any padding or margins there. Set it to 0 or remove.

Thanks for your reply, Tigra.

I removed the padding setting and now I have a retangle where the size of the image is equal to the size of the item.

And the problem continues. I'm getting crazy about that! In IE6 (or Netscape 6+), the whole retangle is a link (the mouse turns into a hand). In IE5, I have to go almost to the border of the retangle to realize that there's a link there.

Could give me a little more help?

Thanks once again,

Renan

I believe you may be experiencing a problem with the z-index of the graphic you are laying the menu on top of. I fixed a problem where my menu rollover would not work in IE5 by setting graphics in <div> tags to a z-index of -1.

All graphics that will be undrneath the root menu items should be set to a z-index of -1. You can do this by placing the grapic in <div></div> tags. eg. <div id="menubknd" style="position:absolute; left:0px; top:191px; width:230px; height:214px; z-index: -1;"><img src="images/menu_bknd.gif" width="230" height="214" /></div>
