Hello,

I've read the documentation and I have no clue how to install this or get ir working.

Please, don't answer this post with "Read the Documentation" because I do not understand it.

Where are the instructions???

Can someone in this forum be more specific??

Thank you

1. Copy folders 'ts_files' and 's0_data' from your download package to the folder where your page is.
2. Include script code to your page:
<script language="javascript" src="ts_files/scroll.js"></script>
3. Initialize control at the location you choose via:
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">Tscroll_init (0)</SCRIPT>
//Tscroll_init (?) where ?-zero based index of the control (ts_files/scroll.tpl?.js - holds corresponding scroller settings)
4. Scroller should already work.
5. Define your presonal settings in following files:
scroll_tpl0.js (scroll_tpl?.js where ?-zero based index of the control)
scroll0.css (scroll?.css where ?-zero based index of the control)

Hi Rock,

Thx for your help, I got the script running. Now I have another question....how do you insert text into the scroller?

rock - 6/17/2004 at 06:37 AM

Scroller operates with 'items', item's structure is third argument of scroller's constructor. Each item content could be setup via

'file' key ('file':'s0_data/cont1.html')
or
'content' key ('content':'<h1>Here comes custom html source</h1>')

If you edit scroll_tpl?.js from your download package you'll find Tscr_ITEMS? variable which defines item structure.

This isn't working for me. The install is pretty straightforward, but it simply doesn't display, even using the default content.

Here's the test page I tried to install it on:

www.infinite-realities.com/test/index.php

The scroller should appear in the cell in the table under New Stuff on the right side in the main content area. But nothing at all shows.

Thanks,

Well, I got the scroll window to show up finally, apparently the files weren't being sent to the server, even though DreamWeaver said they were. And then for some reason the files I was editing weren't getting there either.

Anyway, the scroller window is there now, but there is no content. I placed one line of content in there, but all I have is a blank white window (I got rid of the background image). And no scroll buttons..

Sure is a good thing it's easy to install...

You should remove or properly set those extra items:
{
'file': '',
'content': '',
'pause_b': 1,
'pause_a': 0
},
This is not valid item.

Steel Rat - 6/24/2004 at 01:40 PM

Hmm, didn't see that in the documentation. In fact one example still has blank stuff in there.

Forget it, this isn't going to work for me.

rock - 6/24/2004 at 01:52 PM

You sould just accurately set scroller's items. Try this:
ITEMS = [
{
'file' : '',
'content' : 'Shukuen The Abduction Now available. Infinite Realities Magazine Volume I is here!',
'pause_b' : 1,
'pause_a' : 0
}
]

Steel Rat - 6/24/2004 at 02:00 PM

I did do that, in the first content item for the Scroll1. And it doesn't show up.

And the size is an issue as well. If I make the scroller below a certain size the buttons don't show.

rock - 6/24/2004 at 02:46 PM

Here is you scroller's working demo.
When you change size of scroller's box, buttons images position could be beyond edges of the scroller, so you should also set their position to match box size. Where you could change them? Edit scroll?.css and find ArrowUp/ArrowDn classes.

Steel Rat - 6/24/2004 at 02:53 PM

That's fine, but this is going to be too cumbersome to use. I was going to have the scroller on each page with different content. That means too many different files and folders to keep track of.

rock - 6/24/2004 at 03:05 PM

Just define all your scroll.tpl?.js and scroll?.css files in separate folder (say 'ts_files'). And before calling scroller's constructor at the specific page set appropriate path to scrollers files via Tscroll_path_to_files variable:
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
Tscroll_path_to_files = custom_path+'ts_files/';
Tscroll_init (n);
</SCRIPT>

If i had not found this I would have deleted the whole stupid thing!

THANKS FOR THE HELP!!!! All worked on the first go! Yehaw!!!

Quick question... How do I get the scroll to stop when and where I want it to? For example: I have 10 items in the first file, and I want it to stop for a second at each.

Any help for the new guy?

You could only adjust pause time, but any action could be customized for your needs for low hourly rates.

Just choose place in your document to place the following code, it will build the scroller at the postion.

Code:

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">Tscroll_init (0)</SCRIPT>

This topic should be made a sticky it was very usefull.

eulalie367 - 6/23/2006 at 02:01 PM

I have the code up and running, with data I passed directly into the script. However, I can't seem to get the script to run a container.

'file': 'index.htm',
'content': 'container',
'pause_b': 2,
'pause_a': 0

just scrolls container as text.
